I think it is absurd to assume a God that does not wish for us to explore the world within which we live. If science tells us that the Earth is six billion years old, that we evolved from a lower form of life, and that we are in no way whatsoever the center of the universe, then I would much rather live without "God" than with one that has cursed me with a logic that doesn't reveal truth.
I believe in God. And He is much more open-minded than people give Him credit for.

My sentiments exactly. I also believe in God and believe that He created all existence - to the point that we as humans understand existence at least.
There is however the possibility that our logic (at this point in time) is flawed. As a species we are always growing and learning. Each new revelation sheds a new light on previous ones; sometimes changing common beliefs radically. After all, only 500 years ago people believed it was possible to sail off the edge of the planet.
That being said, I whole heartedly agree with you (and the rest of the scientific community) in the belief that evolution is fact, the geocentric model of the universe is fiction, and that the Earth didn't begin a couple thousand years ago with some guy that really liked apples.
